It's all very depressing but yeah. Carbon offsets allow the destruction of forest to be compensated by, say, a profit making wind turbine. It isn't equivalent, like saying okay I took your cow and now you have no milk to feed your family but here is a wide-screen TV. It seems to me like another corporate scam to keep the circus going a little longer.
